Palmerston North to Host 2006 World Junior Champs

SIX WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS PREVIOUSLY HELD IN NEW ZEALAND

New Zealand has been a regular host to World Squash events since 1971. The last event was the very successful 1994 Junior Men's Championships and organisers are keenly anticipating the challenge the 2006 tournament will bring. Preparations for the Championships including venues, accommodation, transport and functions are well in hand. You can be assured of a warm welcome in New Zealand in 2006.

VENUE - SQUASH PALMERSTON NORTH

The Championships are to be hosted in Palmerston North city, New Zealand's sixth largest city, based in the Manawatu region of New Zealand's North Island.  The headquarters venue Squash Palmerston North, is one of Squash New Zealand's premier club's and was host to the 1971 World Men's Championships.  It has much history but has under gone extensive refurbishment to it's 5 court complex, including 3 glassbacks and a full championship court. It is also in the process of building another 3 ASB glassback courts for this event. In addition an all-glass court will be erected for both individuals and teams finals at the internationally recognised event centre - Arena Manawatu.

ACCOMMODATION

All visiting teams, management and officials will stay in quality accommodation at the Kingsgate Hotel, part of the international Millennium-Copthorne group. Two minutes walk from the headquarters venue - Squash Palmerston North.  This will be provided as part of the entry package.

SIGHTSEEING

New Zealand is a safe, desirable and attractive country of over 4 million people.  Rich in culture it is made up of two main islands. It is a country of much diversity in landscape from beaches, mountains, green parks to gentle rolling hills. There are many sightseeing opportunities available for overseas visitors. It is the intention of the organising committee to encourage tours to varied scenic attractions.
