SquashGym Palmerston North
Excellent facilities were a contributing factor in winning the New Zealand Squash Club of the Year in 2000 and 2002.
The Club facilities, having gone through a major refurbishment, are all very well maintained and in excellent condition. We boast a 5-court complex, with three glass backs including one championship gallery. Two lounge areas and a bar make for a relaxing wind-down after the rigors on court, and a good venue for social club functions.
For the convenience of players, an on-site Pro Shop has a wide range of rackets and shoes, and being at the courts, playing with the rackets before committing to a purchase is a definite advantage.
In December 2004 a new gym was opened. Life Fitness cardio and Fitness Works weight equipment have been installed to give SquashGYM a top quality facility which has already added significant value to the club.
The Committee is committed to maintaining a high standard of facilities, and the advancement of value added membership. It is the policy of the club to continue in this vein, striving to remain one of the very best clubs in New Zealand.
Arena 2
Redeveloped in 2004 this amazingly versatile events centre is one of New Zealand’s most popular venues for sporting events, conventions, exhibitions, functions and entertainment events.
From netball internationals to conference dinners, motor shows to indoor equestrian spectaculars, Tina Turner to the NZ Symphony Orchestra, Arena 2 can cater for an enormous variety of events.
With an occupancy use rate that regularly exceeds 90% it is deservedly New Zealand’s most popular indoor multi purpose facility. Distinctive laminated polished timber beams are an appealing feature of the extensive 3500 square metre open span interior. With an ability to accommodate up to 5000 people on the main arena and extensive breakout rooms/corporate lounges overlooking the main arena, Arena 2 boasts an extensive array of convenient feature and amenities.
Massey University
The designated 'overflow' practice venue at Massey University recreation centre has opened its door to the 900 SquashGym members who may miss out on playing the sport during the world juniors men's champs in July.
As most of the courts at squashgym will be taken by the playing schedule on a daily basis, there is a desperate need to have a contingency venue for athletes, and club members, to practice if they wish.
Squashgym members can get squash benefits for free (up to 4pm daily) at the Recreation Centre in exchange for Massey University being the designated 'overflow' practice venue for the Championships.
